I believe in the transforming power of a positive birth experience. When a mother and her partner have been supported and nurtured through such a life changing event they can do anything....I want to help your family have such a good start.
Currently I am a certified birth Doula through Doulas of North America (DONA). I also enjoy working as a Registered Nurse in labor and delivery.
There have been several key experiences that have brought me to where I am today. In 1996, my life changed forever with the birth of my daughter. During my pregnancy I learned as much as I could from books and classes. The wisdom of many women and their birth stories provided the most guidance and inspiration as I prepared for birth. While pregnant and in my first year postpartum, I realized my passion for pregnancy, birth and women's health. I decided to direct my studies to nursing. While in nursing school I was able to attend births in and out of the hospital for several friends. I was their Doula though I didn't know it. Soon, I realized the importance of this supportive role as I moved through nursing clinicals and listened to many women talk about their birth experiences. As I learned more about the nurturing role of a Doula, I knew I was on the right path. I could practice both nursing and Doula work. Finally in 2004, I entered my new career as a labor and delivery nurse fully pregnant with my second child and planning a homebirth attended by a midwife and, of course, a Doula.
As I continue to learn and grow, I feel confident in assisting women and families to create their birth. It has been said that knowledge is power- I believe in the strength of informed decision making and being able to trust yourself during such an important time.
